The Importance of a Content Calendar

In this day and age, it is imperative for your brand to be on social media. Most people have accepted this, but they simply post to post. Mindlessly posting content can raise brand awareness, but it is important to go one step further to decipher what story you are trying to tell. This step can be tedious, time-consuming and easy to avoid; However, if you want to display a consistent and authentic brand, it is necessary. A simple (and fun) way to ensure that you are posting purposeful content is to create a content calendar.  This may seem like a daunting task, but there are multiple ways to go about creating your own.

First off, you need a clear vision for your brand and the way you want people to perceive you through social media. Once you have determined what your vision is, keep it in mind with every post you plan to publish. Now you have the opportunity to brainstorm your posts weeks, months or if you’re really feeling ambitious, a year out! We recommend planning a month or two out. It is up to you as to what type of content calendar you would like to use or create. For larger companies, we recommend using a software such as Hootsuite, Sprout Social or HeyOrca. There are a plethora of them and a majority offer a free trial so you can test it out and familiarize yourself with what services they provide.

If you have a smaller company and don’t want to pay for a software to post for you, you can still plan your content ahead of time by creating your own Excel content calendar, or you can utilize one of the many free online templates that are offered. Regardless of which tool you choose to plan your content, you will find that planning ahead will relieve you of stress while making your posts more intentional to your target audiences.
