Social Media Made Easy with Imagine Media!

A couple of weeks ago, a few of us Imagineers had the privilege of leading our first in-person training session with the merchants of Westside Market, one of our fabulous new clients who sells amazing home decor (If you have yet to visit, we highly suggest you go. It's almost impossible to leave!). Our goal in the training session was to provide these merchants with the tools and tips necessary to help them increase their online presence and further their outreach to help boost their brand awareness via social. In order to emphasize the importance of the best practices for social media platforms, we created a training packet for the guests and discussed in detail, why certain practices work and why others do not. It was both very exciting and a lot of fun, and proved to be a great learning experience for everyone involved (especially for those of us who get nervous speaking in front of people). After recapping the successful night, we wanted to share with you a few key takeaways if you ever decide to lead a training session on your own!

1. Don’t assume - With it being our first training session, we didn’t know what to expect. It was important not to assume anything regarding the audience’s knowledge in Social Media. With the ever evolving nature of Social Media and many users joining multiple networks daily, it is still extremely important to cover all of the basics before diving deeper into more complex strategies. Believe it or not, there are still many people who have yet to join certain platforms like Instagram and Pinterest and some people who are complete strangers to Twitter and even still, Facebook. Never assume that the audience knows more than you believe they do or should.

2. Provide a guide with visuals - It is much easier for people to learn by following along with any sort of guide. This provides a place for them to take notes and reference back to when they decide to put their strategies into place. Along with a guide, having visual handouts is extremely important. We like to take prints of aesthetically pleasing Instagram accounts to reinforce the importance of strategy when posting. The first 9 images on your newsfeed create a lasting impression. Visitors to your Instagram will decide whether or not they would like to follow you based on the aesthetic of those images. For consumers who are new to the platform, we felt it absolutely necessary to provide them with a few examples of Instagram accounts who do this very well. See our examples below:

3. Be overly prepared - When speaking in front of a live audience, you never know what questions may be thrown your way, so make sure you and your team members are prepared. The best part about speaking with a team, is that if you do not know the answer to an unexpected question, chances are someone else will and will also add any additional tips that you may have forgotten to mention. One of the things we value most at Imagine Media is having supportive teammates, which builds our confidence when speaking in front of others. Take the time to make sure your team is prepared to expect the unexpected and your training session is sure to go off without a hitch.

If you are interested in setting up a training session with us here at Imagine Media, shoot us an email! We would love nothing more than to share with you our expertise to get you and your business up and running full steam ahead.
