Facebook Tests Profile Tags

"photographer. artist. social media guru. addicted to instagram. heart emoji. atlantan. no filter."

Your friends may start 'categorizing,' or tagging, themselves on Facebook in the near future.

"Facebook confirmed to The Verge that it is testing LinkedIn-style profile tags.

Profile tags allow users or their friends to add tags to their profiles, which can be made up of words, phrases or emoji, according to The Verge. Tags submitted by friends must be approved by users before appearing. Once tags are approved, they are visible to all users, and they are listed by number of likes by friends.

Facebook told The Verge the featureβ€”created during a hackathon–is currently being tested in New Zealand, with no details on if and when other countries would be added, and the social network provided the following statement to The Verge:

Profile tags are a creative tool that lets you and your friends add tags to your profile to highlight the things that describe you and what you’re into."

How do you feel about this possible new addition to Facebook? Brilliant idea to further distinguish yourself online, or an obnoxious disaster waiting to happen?
