Your imagineers are all over the social media trends and can *usually* spot a viral trend from a mile away. But to be quite frank, no one saw this one coming! Pokémon Go is a virtual reality game that has brought that old game back to life. The location-based game, which came out last Thursday, uses augmented reality to place Pokémon characters in the real world for users to find and collect. Feel free to toss the binders of your collector’s cards aside, they mean nothing to this 2016 version of the game. Brands are even joining in on the fun. Discounts for high scores, free appetizers for Pokémon players and even these Eos chapstick balls that look like Pokémon characters.
In just one week, the app grew Nintendo’s net-worth by 7 billion dollars! What’s even more amazing (since we prefer tweets over dollar signs), is the 6.6 million times Pokémon Go was mentioned on twitter. Not sure about you guys, but this is one app we will be trying out around Ponce City Market. Has anyone seen Pikachu in Anthropologie? We’re not sure how to feel about the shady privacy settings and the bizarre things that people have found while exploring unturned parts of town looking for their treasure, but one this is certain - people are getting up and moving! That’s something we can get behind.
