Our creative team at Imagine Media is the embodiment of hard work. The team begins with meetings and planning on Mondays followed by two photo shoots per day four days a week. They are constantly on the move and will go to great lengths to capture the most creative and challenging content for our partners. The rest of the team is constantly in awe of their talent and love following along on their adventures throughout Atlanta and beyond. We’ve broken down the creative team and their roles below so that you can get to know the team that makes the magic happen.
I’ve been told that being a creative isn’t a job or a personality trait, but a way you live your life. I believe that’s true for any creative field whether it’s art, dance, photography – anything. At Imagine Media, we have our own in-house creative team and they produce all our partners’ creative content. We have a photographer, videographer, graphics editor, photo stylist and creative manager. Being a social media marketing company, Imagine works with dozens of clients with all kinds of different target audiences and unique brand personalities. Here are some helpful tips and tricks we use when approaching a creative process for specific brands.
1. Research. Research. Research.
One of the most important aspects of any creative field is to do your research. Whether you’re still learning your craft, learning a new technique, or working specifically with a brand, you want to know more about what you’re trying to produce and the best way to do that. Learning about a brand’s voice is a great place to start your research.
2. Make a mood board
Making a mood board is a great way to get an overall image and aesthetic for the project you’re working on. When you look around for inspiration and pull words or images that you like or inspire you, you get a better overall idea of what you’re going for and how you want your final product to look.
3. Fail fast
As Seth Godin says in his book, “fail fast.” Get an opinion, and then get more opinions. Look for criticism and try everything. Everyone fails, especially creatives. Moving as fast as you can and getting through your failures will help you learn faster, and the better your content will become.
4. Give them something to kill
Some of the best creative advice I’ve received about presenting your ideas is give them a concept to shoot down. When communicating with people who are focused on building their brand and not specifically in creative work, they are likely to turn down a lot of ideas in hopes of building the brand in their vision. Sometimes presenting what a brand doesn’t want can help clarify what they do want. When presenting content to them, bring your best ideas forward, but also throw in a few for them to turn down, because they inevitably will.
5. Trust your content
The second-best piece of creative advice I’ve received is to trust your content. A brand hired you for a reason – they like your work! Walk into every creative situation with confidence. The brand knows that you produce great work, and you should believe it too!

Last Thursday we hosted our 6th Double Tap the Keg event in our upstairs and new downstairs office spaces. The theme of the night was Create + Innovate, and we were blown away by our inspiring panel of creative minds. Sitting on the panel we had style therapist and fitness influencer, Lillian Charles; portrait and fashion photographer, Donte Maurice; head of innovation and development at Public School, Rich Santiago; and brand storyteller, Julie Marateck. Together, these four talented individuals left the audience feeling inspired and refreshed moving into the holiday weekend.
The panelists were asked a series of questions directed toward their specific backgrounds and personal experiences.
Rich Santiago gave some beautiful advice when asked how to deal with creative anxiety. His go-to tactics are to learn to multitask well and make sure he’s following inspiring people to keep his ideas fresh. He also mentioned that when working closely with clients he has found that one of the most important things is to allow the client to collaborate and be a part of the creative process as much as possible.
Julie Marateck spoke on the importance of storytelling from the partner’s perspective. She brought up a great point that audiences are smarter these days and are interested in buying experiences, so the goal is to make your brand attainable to the average person. Julie also loves to travel, and discussed how putting herself outside of her comfort zone and experiencing failure is all part of the creative process. Inevitably, on any journey outside of your comfort zone, at some point, things won't go as planned, and traveling prepares Julie for those moments of failure.
Lillian Charles has a large Instagram following, and gave the audience some insight on how she balances the digital content overload that we experience on social media today. She tries to be very cognizant of how much time she spends scrolling and makes sure her social media browsing stays intentional, not habitual. Lillian also gave some lighthearted, but meaningful advice about how to get over obstacles. She said that she and her sister will exchange the phrase “don’t let the turkeys get you down” when they are going through a particularly difficult challenge. While the exchange is an inside joke between the two of them, the take-home message can still apply to anyone: don’t let anything get you down on your road to success, whatever that looks like.
Donte Maurice, the professional photographer on the panel, talked about how he incorporates storytelling into his photography by having a conversation and creating a relationship with the model he’s shooting. Similar to Julie, Donte also discussed failure and how he builds his confidence when he isn’t feeling particularly creative. Donte uses the old adage, ‘rome wasn’t built in a day’ to remind himself that creativity is truly a process and sometimes it won’t happen today. His go-to approach is to sleep on it and he knows he’ll wake up with fresh ideas after resting his mind.
While the panelists’ answers were extremely diverse given their different backgrounds and experience levels, one take away message remained the same throughout the panel: surround yourself with creative people who push you to be better than you are right now. In one way or another, each panelist expressed the importance of mentors, and we couldn’t agree more! At Imagine Media, we encourage mentorship opportunities for both our ambassadors and our full-time teammates.

Storytelling videos are a great way to advertise your next campaign without sounding "salesy" to your followers. The goal of a storytelling video is to connect with your followers on an emotional level. These type of videos create more engagement and are more likely to be shared because it is relatable to your audience. We create stop-motion videos all the time for our partners while on photo shoots. There are a ton of fun and creative ideas you can do with any product of yours. Adding stop-motions to your feed will 100% spice up your content and keep your followers interested in your post. See a few of our favorite stop-motions that we have produced to get your right brain turning.
Gifs are perfect if you are wanting to add a mix of pop culture and humor to your content. GIPHY is one of the most popular sites to find some of the best gifs for your posts. We highly recommend searching through GIPHY after a big pop culture event like an award show to stay on top of the most trendy gifs.
While animations have been around for a while now, they still bring life to your feed and there are many ways to incorporate them into your content. We love animating our partner's Facebook Covers or using animations to make a huge announcement on Instagram Stories.
Cinemagraphs are a combination of photography and videography. Big brands like Coca-Cola are just now using cinemagraphs in their social media content. They are such a unique element that will have your followers scrolling back to see your post. In most cinemagraphs, there is usually one moving element. It is still a unique video idea that we recommend that you jump on this trend soon! Check out a few of our examples on our YouTube channel here.
