Step Into Snapchat's Virtual Reality

unspecified-1.jpeg

Snapchat has made some bold strides over the past year in an attempt to increase engagement and this newest update may top them all. The company just announced that they will be adding a Virtual Reality option to their app. Just recently, Snapchat introduced “Snap Originals” which are TV shows that can be accessed on the Discovery Page exclusively through their app. Not only will users be able to watch these shows, the team behind the idea has added another feature known as “Show Portals” where the user can virtually step into the set of the shows.

We live in a digital age where attention spans are getting shorter and shorter, so this couldn’t have come at a better time. The new feature will allow the viewer to take a break from the show and enter a behind-the-scenes video of each set. The new update is relatively user-friendly. All you have to do is swipe up and move the phone screen around the room to explore the virtual reality.

Snapchat has also announced in the pipeline additions to this feature such as filters and lenses, which are already Snapchat favorites.

As the technology behind social media continues to advance, it will be interesting to see what features other apps will make to build on this idea.
