Ever dreamed of having your own personalized Snapchat geofilter? If so, you can now make your dream come true. Not sure what Snapchat geofilters are? Geofilters are the in-app illustrations — typically tied to specific physical locations — that you can overlay onto your snaps.
Now, anyone can make Snapchat a more official part of their special events. The company is rolling out new on-demand filters that allow users to pay for temporary placement within the app. Once you've designed your filter (don't worry, Snapchat offers some templates), you'll map out the specific area you want the filter to appear in, and for how long. Users can choose from options beginning at just $5 and can cover spaces starting from 20,000 square feet — about the size of an office — to a maximum of 5,000,000 square feet — roughly a few city blocks. The custom filters can stay live anywhere from an hour to thirty days, and Snapchat imagines they'll be used during weddings and other events.
As with all other user-generated geofilters, the new paid filters will require Snapchat's approval before they are pushed into the app. The company estimates this approval process should take only about one business day.
