Here at Imagine, a big part of our culture is our weekly Lunch & Learns. We are always eager to learn something new to elevate our skillsets. Last week, we were lucky enough to be joined by Benjamin Rudolph from Relevance Advisors. He is an SEO and marketing expert. The team was able to absorb so much information revolving around SEO, and we wanted to share some tips and tools that can help you improve SEO for your business.
To start, here are some eye-opening Google stats that Ben shared with us…
- 40,000 search queries every second
- 15% of daily search queries are new to Google
- Google’s 2016 Revenue from advertising: $79.4 Billion (which was 89% of their total revenue!)
When you are evaluating your company’s SEO, there are a few things you can do to see how you’re doing. Compare your site to competitors. This is a great way to see new things that you could add to your site, as well as stuff that might be irrelevant for your site.
Remember, Google prides themselves on being the best search engine in the world, so they want the best site to rank the highest. That means you need to frequently make sure your site has a good Quality Score. Do all of the links work? Are all of the pages indexed? Is your content relevant? All of these factors play in to where your site lands on a search page.
Google Webmaster | Track your site's search performance with Google Search Console and browse around for Google Webmasters support, learning and community resources.
Bing Webmaster | A free service as part of Microsoft's Bing search engine which allows webmasters to add their websites to the Bing index crawler.
Google Page Speed Tool | With PageSpeed Insights you can identify ways to make your site faster and more mobile-friendly.
Moz Pro | Improve rankings and search engine visibility with the complete SEO toolset.
Screaming Frog | A website crawler, that allows you to crawl websites’ URLs and fetch key onsite elements to analyze onsite SEO.
Keyword Planner | Get keyword ideas to help build your campaigns.
Moz Blog | The Moz inbound marketing and SEO blog provides tips, tricks, and advice for improving websites and doing better search, social, content, and brand marketing.
Whiteboard Friday | Helpful series of blogs from Moz.
Moz Beginners Guide | The Beginner's Guide to SEO has been read over 3 million times and provides comprehensive information you need to get on the road to professional quality Search Engine Optimization, or SEO.
SEO Checklist | Use this excerpt as an in-hand to-do list or basic audit outline.
Google Webmaster Central Blog | Official news on crawling and indexing sites for the Google index.
Search Engine Land | Features daily search engine industry news & trends in search marketing (SEM), paid search advertising (PPC) & search engine optimization (SEO).

We know SEO can be a complicated topic, so what are the key takeaways? Google rewards relevance. If you want to be in Google’s good graces, be sure to frequently publish pertinent content. It is important for your site to be technically sound. Finally, benchmark your company’s performance vs. competitors.
