The current social media trend seems to be where video goes, advertising dollars soon follow (see: Instagram Story ads, Snapchat’s expanded advertising platform.) Pinterest hopped on the bandwagon this week by rolling out Promoted Video Pins to all advertisers.
Video pins have been active on the site for over a year but now all brands, big and small, can promote those video pins to users. The delay in rolling out ads comes with the benefit of accurate reporting– Pinterest learned from the struggles of advertising platforms like Facebook and partnered with Nielsen and Moat to verify the accuracy of their video ad metrics.
Promoted videos will appear in both feeds and search results. It’s a compelling option given that, according to Pinterest, 75% of Pinterest users are likely to watch videos with topics that interest them, compared to 55% on other platforms.
