Watch out Instagram, there’s a new social app on the rise. It’s called Vero and brands itself as “True Social.”
The app was actually launched back in 2015, but it did not take off the way the billionaire and app visionary, Ayman Hariri, had initially hoped. In the last few days, however, the app’s user count has significantly increased. While we don’t actually know what has caused this surge in popularity, it’s speculated that it has to do with Instagram users’ growing frustration with the app’s algorithm.
The Vero description on iTunes states that the app “Makes sharing online more like real life. That means naturally choosing which posts get seen by who - whether it’s a photo, a song, a book or a movie recommendation, a cool restaurant or a great article.” It also has no advertisements and the posts appear in chronological order, in contrast to Instagram’s current user experience.
For those who are making the jump from Instagram to Vero, it seems like the main concern has been Instagram’s growing support for business accounts vs. personal accounts. As they make the switch, users are promoting their new Vero accounts on Instagram using the hashtag #Vero.
If you’re interested in downloading Vero to see what it’s about, you better hurry! The first 1 million users get the app free of charge. After that, there will be an annual subscription fee. At Imagine Media, we’ve downloaded the app and are exploring its features to see what all the fuss is about. Stay tuned for any updates from our socially savvy team.
