Starting yesterday, Instagram added the ability to follow hashtags, making it easier for users to stay connected with the interests, hobbies, and communities they care about.
Here's what you need to know:
- When you use a hashtag in a feed post, that post is now eligible to appear in a user's Instagram feed if they follow that specific hashtag in addition to already appearing on the hashtag page. The same for Stories.
- As long as that user follows a hashtag, your post is eligible to appear in their feed/Stories tray, whether or not they follow you
- Only posts with quality and relevant hashtags are eligible to show up as a top hashtag post - see “Hashtag Best Practices” attached.
To see the update, make sure you've updated to Instagram app version 26 on the App Store or Play Store and be sure to choose your hashtags wisely!
