Last week was a big week for Instagram news – in case you missed it, Clarendon is officially the world’s most popular filter, and now, according to a TechCrunch report the platform will be rolling out a new way to track your followers’ engagement. Starting next week, you’ll be able to see your videos’ view counts in comparison to your number of likes.
Instagram is the latest to jump on the view-count bandwagon — Vine, Youtube, Snapchat, and Facebook already allow users to see how many people are viewing your videos, so it was only a matter of time before Instagram did too. According to TechCrunch, video watch time on Instagram has increased by 40% over the past six months.
With 400 million active users, Instagram’s bet is that view counts will be impressive enough to convince video content creators to leave the other platforms in hopes that they won't just post on Instagram, but actually craft clips specifically for its 15-second video format.
As for advertisers? Instagram has also changed its video time limits from from 30 seconds to 60 seconds for brands. This means that big time companies can now post full TV-length commercials to the app. (Plus, they will now be able to see how many people are stopping to take the time to view the video instead of scrolling through.)
All the more proof that the future of digital marketing lies in video content. These are just two updates on the tip of the iceberg for Instagram and we can't wait to see what's next.
