Instagram is at it again with yet another update! Last week, news broke that Instagram is testing out Direct — a standalone app for messaging and picture sharing — amongst six countries (Chile, Israel, Italy, Portugal, Turkey, and Uruguay). A blend between Facebook Messenger and Snapchat, the app opens to the camera and, once installed, all Instagram messages can only be accessed through it.
Similarly, in 2014, Facebook began requiring users to download the entirely separate Messenger app in order to access their messages on their phones. This led to a lot of mixed reviews — many didn't understand why they needed a separate app to message their friends.
We’re super interested to see how Direct expands in 2018! How do you feel about it? Let us know in the comments below.
