The travel envy is so real this summer. But let's all calm down and remember where we live. Atlanta is a travel destination for many people in the states and overseas. Treat yourself this summer and take a stay-cation to remember why we love Atlanta! So much to do, to see and to eat! Don't know where to start? Lucky for you, we've done our own "investigative reporting" and created this list of top picks:
Be a tourist - it goes without saying that Atlanta is home to some of the best tourist attractions in all of the country. Here’s a challenge - wake up early one day and hit up every museum/monument you can physically get to. That includes (but not limited to) The Georgia Aquarium, Coca-Cola museum, College Football Hall of Fame, CNN Center, Turner Field, Olympic Rings and the list goes on and on. That means ubering everywhere and making time to snag a postcard from each stop. Make a fun collage of your postcards and frame them on a rainy day.
Pretend like you’re overlooking the ocean with a bloody mary in hand and oysters on the half shell. A cup of chow-dah from Beetlecat will have you daydreaming of a summer in the Hamptons (minus the Kardashians).
Work those glutes - Mt. Yonah is not for the faint of heart, but the views are unbeatable. If you’re wanting to be adventurous without spending all day swimming in your own sweat, try out the short hike to Minnehaha Falls. Less than two miles and bonus points for the insta-worthy waterfall photos you’ll get! Pro tip: bring your selfie stick.
Cheese - put your stretchy pants on and find your closest cheese board. Kidding, but not really. Check out this list of the best boards in town. Try them out for yourself and let us know which are the best of the best! Extra points for unlimited bread refills.
A day in the sun - if the cheese was overdone and you need to get back on your feet, a day on the beltline is exactly what the doctor ordered! Park your car at the gravel lot next to Park Tavern (Piedmont Park) and start walking. Spots worth a stop - Paris on Ponce, Ponce City Market, Ladybird Grove & Mess Hall and check out the Tiny Doors and lively art along the way.
Paint the town red - This list is stellar. So many places to see and so little time. Our advice - pick 3 bars to check out during your staycation weekend. Maybe you’ll find your new stomping grounds or maybe you’ll continue trying a new spot every weekend from now on! For an added late-night treat, check out Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit in the Virginia Highlands. Serving up hot biscuits late at night is genius, just sad we didn't think of it first!
