Social media can be a powerful tool for your brand, which is why it is important to be aware of some of the major mistakes that people constantly make. Some of these may seem obvious, but it is crucial that we avoid these 5 things while navigating social media platforms.
1. Mindlessly Post
Social media can appear to simply be a lot of pretty content and nothing more. This is the case for some brands and we highly advise against that. Social media should be used to convey the story of your brand, which we believe is extremely important! Make sure with every post, caption and comment you are being congruent with your branding. It truly does make a difference because your followers gain an organic feel for your brand.
2. Provide Misleading Information
It is never a good idea to mislead or lie to your followers. First off, you should believe in your brand and therefore you should never feel the need to do this. However, a lot of misleading on social media is unintentional which is why it is important to plan out thoughtful content. Always be intentional about being honest and transparent, it will show your audience that you are genuine and they will be more likely to trust you.
3. Keep to Yourself
While yes social media is about promoting your brand, you want to be sure that you are interacting with followers and other companies across platforms. When you fail to interact, it sends the message that you do not care, which is not good for your company. When you do choose to interact with others, be sure that is intentional. If you see a post by another company and think “that is really great,” let them know by commenting or direct messaging them! Bottom line: don’t be a recluse and when you do interact, make sure it is genuine.
4. Post Only Photos
Don’t get us wrong, we love photos! A good picture truly is worth a thousand words, but social media platforms have so many functions now, it would be foolish not to utilize them. Whether you use live video features, create stories or publish your own GIFs or cinemagraphs, be sure to switch up your types of content across platforms. By doing this, you are more likely to keep your followers engaged.
5. Get Too Comfortable
It is important to show your personality through all of yours posts, but be sure that you are portraying your brand’s voice in a professional manner. To elaborate, we don’t mean that you have to be formal all of the time, but it is important to avoid over sharing, complaining or being inappropriate. When you start to get too comfortable it is easier to do one of these things without even realizing it.
To sum things up, it is vital that you are being intentional about your social media content by constantly researching and planning before you implement them.
